Kean Coffee is a coffee shop in California with two locations located in Newport Beach and Tustin. Kean Coffee is a well-known establishment that serves coffee and is very popular in the surrounding communities. The popular coffee blends they sell on-site are also sold through their website.
As part of my program, I was to choose a field site (and their website) to observe, study, analyze, and make recommendations. After visiting four different coffee shops, I decided to make Kéan Coffee in Newport beach my field site simply because I found it intriguing. I was curious to find out what makes this coffee shop so successful and so popular.
My initial impression before going in to observe was that this coffee shop always had long lines of people with a long wait. Traffic is an issue due to location and construction. They do not offer a drive-through option and getting to this location is definitely not convenient. They also do not have an app where I can pre-order a drink to avoid waiting in the long line, and their website did not offer much in convenience either. I was already convinced that this place needed some technological upgrades to better accommodate their customers.
Martin Diedrich set out to bring the European coffeehouse experience to the United States. His passion for coffee and getting his special, high-quality coffee out to the public expanded to a bigger vision. He successfully created a space for the European coffee culture. He felt this would be the ultimate coffeehouse experience.
While Kean Coffee shops have become successfully popular and have received an abundance of positive feedback and awards, the findings show they would benefit from a website that would match their reputation. By implementing recommendations from the reports, Kean Coffee can create a website where users would have a pleasant user experience which would increase the number of new & return site visitors thus also increasing site revenue.
