About this Project

Introduction

Accu-Chek is a blood glucose monitor that is designed to help users manage their diabetes with an all-in-one device. The product allows the user to check and track their blood sugar levels by taking blood samples with the lancet pen attachment and testing via dispensed test strips.

The goal of the Accu-Chek device is to be a key component of a diabetic’s daily care routine and simplifying glucose monitoring which needs to be done multiples times per day. which occurs multiple times per day , usage and user adherence is low due to the poor interface and its multiple, complex components.

Problem

While there are many options for blood glucose monitors available on the market, patients are usually limited to devices such as this particular Accu-Chek due to insurance coverage restrictions and cost. Usage and user adherence is low on this device due to the poor interface and its multiple, complex components. Disabilities like poor vision and limited dexterity compound the problem, adversely affecting their self-care routines and quality of life with poorly designed blood glucose monitoring devices.

Solution

Family members and friends with diabetes were the inspiration in reimagining what a better blood glucose monitor could be and how it could be optimized in a way that could improve usage and user adherence. The final design of the blood glucose monitoring device includes an easy-to-learn interface and user flow. Product casing was also redesigned to address disabilities like poor vision and unsteady hands.
